Hull Pirate Radio Project

Hull Pirate Radio Project
Developing a new piece of theatre about pirate radio in Hull

In 2016 Jamie Potter self-published Secret Secret, an oral history zine about pirate radio in Hull, through the late ’90s into the ’00s.

The zine featured interviews with some of the key DJs and MCs who were part of the likes of Sweet FM, Unity FM, Twilight FM and Freak FM, broadcasting incognito across the city.

Starting in late 2023, Jamie and Belle will collect further memories and stories about the pirate radio stations, from people across Hull.

These will then be used to develop a new piece of theatre about Hull’s musical and community heritage, to celebrate the pirate radio stations and share their history with a new generation.

You can now share your own memories using our online form, with a limited number of copies of the Secret Secret zine available for free as a thank you to those who share a story.

The Hull Pirate Radio Project has been made possible with an arts grant from Hull City Council.
